RS Update on national testing, camps & more!

Northern Lakes Region Update for June 2013

RS Linda Murphy

REMINDER, the deadline is June 26 for National Testing in Northern Lakes Region. (8 weeks prior to the test date).  If you plan to do your C3 or higher in our region, you need to complete your application online.
Richard Lamb and Claire Harmon, both elite A testing National Examiners, enjoyed our regions members "immensely" said Richard in a post interview.  The members who attended were given a lot of feedback about their riding skills and horse management and had a great time at Schweiss's Roebeke Run.  Tayler Ittel said," . . . in Cross country Richard had us warm up by galloping and practicing slowing down. So much fun!! Went top speed with the squeak!"

Setting jumps for NE Camp 2013

D camp starts in a week in WI at the University-River Falls!!  This is always on of the most fun events of the year and this year will be no exception!  Get packing! And if you want to volunteer, I know the organizers could always use a little more help so let us know!
Two rallies this year!  A Dressage Rally and a Qualifying Eventing Rally for 2014 Festival year are coming in August.  If you have never rallied before, the dressage rally is the one to attend.   If you are an eventer, the Qualifying Rally at Steepleview is the place to be.  Why leave with only one ribbon when you can earn two!  Rally with a team is much more fun than going by yourself.  Start planning your teams now and let you DC know about your plans.
Drink lots of water when you are riding in the heat. Hydrate!  Watch out for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.  Remind your teammates, and keep your horse hydrated too.  Attending a rally? or camp? or testing? or mounted meeting? in the heat? Prepare and pack electrolytes for your horse if you think you may need some.
Enjoy summer and ride, ride, ride!

American Youth Horse Council Symposim 2014 coming to Minneapolis

American Youth Horse Council Invites Proposals for 2014 Symposium Presentations

The American Youth Horse Council (AYHC) invites proposals to speak at the 37th Annual AYHC Symposium, March 21-23, 2014 in Minneapolis, MN. This event presents an opportunity for adult and student leaders in the youth horse industry to come together to learn, network, share ideas and grow as an industry.

 Three audiences will be represented:

Adult Leaders of Youth—mostly volunteers who work directly with youth in the field

Youth Industry Professionals—those employed in the youth horse industry (such as Extension Specialists and Breed Association Youth Program Coordinators)

Peer Leaders of Youth—older teen leaders and college students focusing on leadership (who are also encouraged to submit proposals for presentations).

The non-breed / discipline specific curriculum throughout the symposium offers equine knowledge that transfers from the book to the barn, providing take-home tools to teach youth about safe and effective horsemanship. Above all, the Symposium connects participants with resources, referrals, and networking to help kids connect through horses. Presentations can address, but are not limited to the following categories:

   Youth Leadership/Character Development

   Youth Issue Forums

   Traditional Youth Programming

   Horse Management and Health Care

Interactive and Hands-on Youth Development Activities

Horse Industry Issues, including Legislative, Career Development

There are two types of sessions available; AYHC welcomes proposals for both formats

×          Workshop – May be presented in a variety of formats including lecture, discussion, forum, panel, or hands on activity. Preference will be given to interactive workshops.

×          Demonstration – Arena demonstrations are offered on Saturday afternoon only. Demonstrations should showcase a discipline, breed or training technique.

Proposals must follow the provided format and be submitted electronically by email no later than September 15, 2013. Complete guidelines and form are available at www.ayhc.com.  Speakers are responsible for their own registration fees, travel, lodging and other expenses.

The American Youth Horse Council is a network of academic, breed, industry and other representatives interested in facilitating the flow of horse-related educational resources for youth. AYHC’s mission is to provide encouragement, communication, leadership & resources to serve and promote the youth horse industry. For complete presentation proposal instructions and/or more information about the association, please visit www.ayhc.com or contact the American Youth Horse Council at info@AYHC.com.

Regional Update for National Ratings

Note from testing: After an online application is processed, an email is sent to the RS from the region that the member is associated with. Included on this email to
the RS are the names of the applicants the current certification level,
club/center, test requested and date of test requested. This information
will allow the RS to communicate with the local DC/CA to confirm “member in
good standing” and may also help regions in planning needed preps.

At 7 weeks out, the candidate will receive a roster and candidate memo from
the National Office.

We are still experiencing payment difficulties and are trying to resolve
this. In the meantime, encourage members to call the office for help and
we will assist them in taking the information for UL Testing payment.
